Monday, January 16th, 2012

i haven’t been sleeping much lately. being 38 weeks pregnant makes that a little hard! but i have been dreaming of a good night’s sleep, so this treasury was born…

you can put this one down to general cluckiness, and the fact that our long-awaited son is due to be born in nine days!

not craft, but art

Friday, October 14th, 2011

i just wanted to show you this incredibly beautiful print that sara-jane and i bought a few weeks ago. it’s called “lepus, nq2, -20ยบ, 6h”, and it was created by our friend leonie:

it features a quote from philip pullman’s ‘his dark materials’ series, which happens to be a description of one of our favourite characters, a hare called hester. i actually tear up a little when i read it, because hester is so wonderful, and the story is so sad.

the other element of the print is leonie’s delicate and beautiful etching of the lepus (hare) constellation.

the piece is from a larger series called “the stars are words”.
i am in love with this gorgeous artwork, and cannot wait to have it framed and hung on the wall.

cardigan from nanna

Friday, September 30th, 2011

last week we visited sara-jane’s family in perth. her mum had knitted the most adorable cardigan for the baby:

in spite of my best attempts, i am hopeless with yarn, so i always admire hand-knitted crafts. this little cardi is so soft, and such a pretty shade of green. i love it, and i can’t wait to see the baby wearing it!

pretty mail

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

what could be inside a package a delightful as this? could the contents possibly live up to the exterior?

yes, actually, they could!

i had an appalling haircut recently (no, really, it’s horrible), so to console myself i visited one of my favourite etsy shops, the faerie market and bought that lovely leaf headband. it is so pretty that it might make me feel a little bit better about being seen like this… a very little bit…

not-quite-tuesday treasury: the good kind of blue

Friday, May 6th, 2011

i’m either very early for next week’s treasury, or quite late for last tuesday’s. i don’t seem to be able to remember on the day at the moment, and that’s why i haven’t done one for a little while, but i’d like to get back into it, because it is so inspiring to look at all the delightful things other crafters are making and sharing with the world.

here’s one on a blue theme - but it’s not a melancholy collection. it’s the good kind of blue:

feline valentine

Monday, February 21st, 2011

the internet is full of cats. there’s long cat, spaghetti cat, party cat, simon’s cat, and of course all of the lolcats. but my favourite cat on the internet is a very special, very clever cat. her name is paisley, and she draws her own web comic (with a little help from her human, the girl).

through the wonders of the internet, pais, the girl and i have become friends. we send each other parcels from time to time with crafts and sweets in them. it’s like being pen pals! last week i got a particularly exciting parcel from them. inside were lots of nommy pretzel m&ms (now my favourite kind!), some pais-designed valentines, and the most awesome handmade magnet - it’s a portrait of orla!

pais and the girl use photos of people’s cats to make personalised cameo brooches and magnets out of felt. they are the coolest. you can get one from their shop if you want one - and as if you wouldn’t! they are the best! you can also get catnip mice, comics and other great things there. what are you waiting for, go and see!

hope your week has started off happily!
