hovel, sweet hovel

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

sometimes, while reading other people’s beautiful blogs, and seeing glimpses of their lovely homes, i start to feel that my housekeeping abilities are abnormally appalling. i am simply not one of those people who can keep my house consistently clean and tidy. i go through bursts of industrious organisation, and determined washing-of-all-the-things, but it’s never been something i’ve been able to maintain for any length of time, and my house always seems to descend into a state of cheerful chaos before long.

i’m sure i can’t be alone in this, so i have designed a simple little pattern for the domestically challenged among us…

the pattern is free, and you can find the chart here. you can sit on the couch and stitch it up, instead of doing the vacuuming!

hope you like it!

hand embroidered hair clips

Monday, September 27th, 2010

i’ve been working on the idea of some embroidered hair clips for a while and i think i’m ready to show you…

i got some dublin linen (so lovely to work with!) and started stitching up a few itty-bitty designs. then i put them onto snap clips, and paired them another cloth covered snap clip in complementary colours.

there are three motifs so far: bunny, birdie, and heart. they will be VERY limited edition in this form (more on that in a couple of weeks), and i’ll be selling them at my stall at the sisters’ market on the 9th of october. if i have any left after the market, i’ll put them up in the shop.

i think they’re pretty cute - what do you think?

sharing the hearts

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

i was pootling around my etsy shop today, and discovered that over 100 people heart my little corner of the marketplace! it seemed to me that something like that deserves celebration, so i’m going to have a giveaway!

leave a comment on this post, telling me which of my patterns you like best and why, and you’ll go in the draw to win that pattern (if you have already purchased that pattern we’ll organise for you to choose another one). easy peasy, yes?

good luck!

new needle keepers

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

i’ve been busily sewing up needle keepers for october’s sisters market, and i’ve put some up in my etsy shop in the mean time:

i think i have made my favourite one yet, using some liberty of london pear-print fabric and a really awesome vintage button:

this one with heather ross’ “far far away” fabric and another great vintage button is also a favourite:

and i’m still sewing away!

p.s. sorry for accidentally doing two posts in one go - my blog thinks it’s in a different time zone to me!

woodland sampler

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

here is the latest pattern from penelope waits: the woodland sampler!

i wanted to create a sampler that wasn’t quite so pink as my other one, and that incorporated animals as well as botanicals. this is the result!

it’s not a traditional sampler, in that it doesn’t have a place for the date and the stitcher’s name. i thought it might be nice to keep this one as simple as possible, what with all the busy little creatures scampering across it!

as ever, you can purchase the pattern from my etsy shop if you have taken a fancy to it.

tuesday treasury

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

hello my lovelies. i hope your week has gotten off to a wonderful start.

those of you who have been following the blog for a while may remember my old “things i love” posts, where i used to share some of the creative, inspiring and beautiful things i found in my online wanderings. those have been somewhat superseded by my tumblr, which i update daily with all sorts of lovely images and ideas (i’d love it if you followed me over there).

however, i still have so much love for the handmade things i find that one outlet for sharing them is simply not enough, so i have decided to institute “treasury tuesdays” here on the blog.

each tuesday (stress levels and organisation skills permitting), i’ll share a treasury of etsy finds, on a certain theme, bringing some of the best of etsy right to you!

here’s he first one: “beautifully botanical”

i hope you love the treasures i’ve gathered!

stitching retreat

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

yesterday, my friend jen and i trekked down to yarra glen to attend the immerse yourself in stitching event run by rosalie quinlan, melly hurlston, and leanne beasley.

it was a very pleasant day, devoted entirely to stitching, and wandering in the garden…

springtime blossoms

jen enjoying some of the winery’s champagne

a regal iris

here i am, standing dorkily in the garden

stitching up one of leanne’s designs

if all the laughter and chatter were anything to go by, a good day was had by all.

all petals

Friday, September 17th, 2010

i’ll have a new pattern to show you very soon, and in the mean time, i thought i’d show you some of the flowers i encountered at my mother’s house yesterday.

i took heaps of photos, but i’ve just chosen three:

i brought these with me to give to her. they’re ranunculus, but their colouring reminded me for hellibore.

mum is especially fond of this iris because my little brother picked it for her.

these little forget-me-nots were sitting on her kitchen window sill.

there’s nothing like some pretty petals to beautify your day.
